Tools in Hollow Knight: Silksong are special items which grant offensive and defensive effects that Hornet can use both in and out of combat. Tools are tied to Crests and are speculated to serve a similar function as the original Hollow Knight's charms and their notches. As per the gameplay that has been revealed in E3 2019, Tools are equipped in special color-coded slots within Crests, and appear to grant Hornet new ways to approach combat and exploration, and presumably granting her some passive abilities as well.
